DIANE OLIVER APPOINTED GROUP VICE PRESIDENT, MARKETING, FOR BIRKS AND MAYORS JEWELLERS

Montreal, August 11, 2003 – Tom Andruskevich, President and CEO of Birks and Mayors, a Southeastern United States chain of jewellery stores recently acquired by Birks, has appointed Diane Oliver Group Vice President, Marketing, for Birks and Mayors. Ms. Oliver, who has been Vice President, Marketing, for Birks since 1998, assumes her new position immediately.

In her new role, Ms. Oliver will be responsible for the strategic and creative direction for the communications function of both Birks and Mayors including advertising, public relations and special events programs. She will also be the marketing spokesperson for both brands.

In her five years at Birks, Ms. Oliver has been instrumental in the company’s turnaround and brand repositioning through her development and implementation of key marketing and communications strategies and creative direction, including a number of highly successful advertising and direct mail campaigns. She was instrumental in the redesign of Birks’ website and packaging, and was involved with both the Bloor store renovation and the Montreal store restoration. With her strong experience in luxury brand management, Ms. Oliver was a driving force in the rejuvenation of Birks’ image.

Prior to coming to Birks, Ms. Oliver was, for eight years, Vice President, Marketing, at Chanel Inc. Canada, where she contributed to the brand’s revival in this country. At Chanel she was responsible for several successful major fragrance launches and played a key role in the brand’s growth in Canada. In 1998 she joined Birks as Vice President, Marketing assuming the leadership of the brand repositioning and development.
